Remember the feeling of meeting your boss for the first time? The idea of having your supervisor watching you while working can be stressing. A person with social anxiety or social phobia prefer to spend time alone, sheltered and far from others. their fear of not being able to fit in some way or another can cause them to become loners. Even being with people they have close ties can still cause them to feel overwhelmed and can consistently feel being criticize and/or watched. This is the chief determinant which causes them to avert from crowds and other people and situations.

A person who suffers from social anxiety and social phobia are often misdiagnosed and are commonly labeled as schizophrenic and manic-depressive, among other detrimental misdiagnoses. Because only a few people suffering from social anxiety have heard of their condition and have never understood it due to its lack of exposure to any media, they believe they are alone in the world experiencing the disturbing symptoms. This can result to patients keeping the symptoms to themselves due to fear of being misjudged. Lacking important information, education and proper treatment, social anxiety or social phobia can impair their lives.

Furthermore, once a person experiencing this condition summons the courage to find treatment, the chances of getting a good recovery may have lowered. To make matters worse, those who have experienced an anxiety attack as more likely to experience them throughout the rest of their life. Eventually, these people develop social anxiety disorders.

The single, most common knowledge for those who are socially anxious is that their fear of being judged and criticized are basically irrational and they are aware that what they think is not true at all. They acknowledged that their thoughts, doubts, and feelings are often exaggerated and irrational. Even with this awareness and despite the fact that they know whats really going on, controlling the thoughts and emotions can be hard and thus continue to feel that way.

Fortunately, social anxiety or social phobia is curable, and treatments are available. Several therapeutic methods has been studied, but cognitive-behavioral therapy is the only method that has been made known to work effectively. In reality, the treatment of social anxiety or social phobia by cognitive-behavioral methods has the capacity to give long-term, permanent relief to patients of this condition. Anyone who suffers from social anxiety or social phobia, and those who feel the symptoms, should be more open about it can consult a doctor in order to be given proper treatment before its too late.
