Health insurance is the new buzzword these days in office talk these days. So when it comes to the question of ‘why must I have health insurance’? , it is not about why you must have one, but more about what sort of health insurance you can get.
Low cost health insurance is not at all different from a normal health insurance. It is just that you will be sacrificing a few extra benefits but your basic coverage will remain the same. Now let us take a look at what exactly you may get out of a basic low cost health insurance plan.
A basic low cost health insurance plan will cater to most of your basic health needs. The emergency services are something which is covered by any and every plan out there. This is something that everybody needs to be covered for. Because you never know when adversity might strike and it is better to be cushioned to take the fall. Else you may be bedridden and laden with a lot of bills to pay off. It’s a double whammy so to speak. You cannot work and at the same time you must find money to pay for your treatment. Emergency care will provide you for all the general needs that you might require during those periods.
And then you have the basic annual health check up. This is necessary for anyone irrespective of their health condition. But if you do have a chronic condition, make sure you mention it beforehand so that you may be covered for it. In this case, you might have to shell out a bit more.
A low cost health insurance plan usually covers just about so much. It’s more like life insurance. But if you have other requirements, it is always better to go out and get a better plan.
Say you are expecting to have kids, then you might need maternity care, nursing, infant care, post natal care etc. and also if you expect to buy a lot of prescription drugs, make sure you are covered for that too. A low cost insurance plan is basically about neglecting a few frills or added conveniences in lieu of a better deal. For example you might have to drive a long way to the central health facility for your annual checkup. But it’s a good trade off considering it’s a lot less heavy on your pocket.
