One of the unfortunate realities of our modern time is the number of people who are forced to forego essential or cosmetic medical and dental procedures due to the costs involved. This is a sad state of affairs considering the strides that have been made in recent decades in medicine. The extreme cost and sometimes unacceptable waiting periods in developed countries have given rise to the broad acceptance of medical tourism as an alternative.

Simply put, medical tourism is the global trend of travelling to foreign shores to get medical care at reduced rates or to capitalize on medical skills or procedures not available at home. Listed below are just a few of the world locations that are becoming ever more popular for their affordable, fast and excellent medical treatment.

Mexico has seen a huge amount of development in the area of medicine and in particular medical facilities. The facilities are all world class and cutting edge procedures are expertly applied by highly qualified and experienced doctors and surgeons. In addition you couldn’t choose a more beautiful country to spend your recovery period in.

Now over to Asia. India counts as one of the most promising new medical tourism destinations and is working hard to build that reputation. The high standards of Indian hospitals and their staff are complemented by an excellent pricing structure. The entire procedure, including a month’s recovery in hospital, cost $8,000 in comparison to the $40,000 a far simpler operation costs in America.

Medical tourism is proving to be the saving grace of many patients that could either not afford the cost or the delay of treatment in their home country. This trend will also certainly bring great benefit to the people of the host nations as a result of the money flowing into tourism and medical infrastructure.
