Nurses Are Important No Matter Where They Work
Nurses are quite important to our health care industry. With out nurses the doctors would not have time to take care of all of the patients they have. If a doctor is dealing with a patient that is critical the nurse can take care of the patients that are stable. This gives the doctor time to handle the situation with the other patient with out having to rush to get to the next. Nurses have different duties depending on where they work.
Nurses that work in the emergency room have duties that primarily involve helping out the doctors with the sick patients. The nurse is usually the one that takes down all the medical information and history for the doctor to review before he sees the patient. Once the patient has been seen by the doctor the nurse is usually the one who gives them the medicine the doctor orders for them.
There are a lot of people that come into the emergency room every day and the doctor may not have time to give the medication to each patient. Patients can get their medication and be on their way much faster with a doctor helping them. Without a nurse helping the doctor the patient could be at the emergency room for a long time. No one wants to sit for hours at an emergency room when they are not feeling well.
A nurse that works for a doctor in a private office usually has standard duties such as checking temperatures, and blood pressure along with weighing patients. Sometimes the nurse has to draw blood or collect a urine sample.
If you are thinking about becoming a nurse you are going to have to decide what kind of work would fit your personality best. Working at a private doctors office will mean you get to have a regular schedule from nine to five and have weekends off. Working in the emergency room will mean that your schedule will change from week to week and you may even have to work on weekends and holidays.
There are going to be pros and cons to consider for each working environment. Nurses that work at hospitals have the chance to actually help doctors save lives. If a nurse is working in a private doctors office there are probably going to be very few chances to actually save a life. Of course you will be helping to keep the patients healthy but not the same way as a nurse in the emergency room.
Working in the emergency room will also mean that you may see patients die. Some people have a hard time dealing with death which is understandable. If you work in a doctors office you are not likely to see many people die like you would in an emergency room.
You know yourself better than anyone else does so you are the only person that can decide what working environment is best for you. If you think an emergency room is too much for you then you could try sending your resume out to all the local doctors offices. In the end it really wont matter where you work because you will still be helping others and doing a good thing.
